Advancing the Tropical Forest Forever Facility

Role: Public Policy Advisory at Plant for the Planet Foundation

Tropical Forest Forever Facility

The Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) is a flagship initiative proposed by the Government of Brazil. designed to secure long-term, results-based finance for the protection of tropical forests worldwide. Scheduled for launch at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025, the facility aims to mobilize stable, predictable funding to incentivize tropical forest countries to reduce deforestation while ensuring social and ecological integrity.

Basically Wild provides strategic and technical support to Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation, one of the civil society partners championing the TFFF with a focus on multi-stakeholder coordination and international policy engagement.

Goals and scope of work The overarching goal of Basically Wild’s engagement is to ensure the successful adoption and implementation of the TFFF by staying deeply informed on all aspects of the facility’s development, keeping key partners updated, and working across networks to align political, technical, and institutional efforts toward its launch at COP30 and long-term viability.

Key areas of work include:

  • Strategic Positioning: Supporting the global visibility and political relevance of the TFFF through close coordination with civil society, government partners, and multilateral platforms.

  • Information Stewardship: Acting as a knowledge hub for ongoing developments related to the TFFF—tracking negotiations, synthesizing updates, and sharing insights across networks.

  • Partnership Coordination: Collaborating with aligned organizations to ensure consistent messaging, shared priorities, and well-informed engagement across constituencies.

  • Political and Investment Advocacy: Engaging directly with governments—particularly Germany—and private sector actors to build support and mobilize financial commitments.

  • Monitoring and Mapping: Maintaining an internal investment and stakeholder tracker for PfP to follow donor activity, policy signals, and areas of convergence.
